Michel Trudel has been named as the president of film production services company and studio MELS, it was announced Thursday.
Trudel, who previously served as the president of MELS’ soundstage and equipment division, will now oversee all divisions within the company, including visual effects and postproduction.
MELS is owned by Quebec’s TVA Group, which is in turn owned by parent company Quebecor Media. In 2014, TVA Group acquired Vision Globale, integrating its operations, which included post, VFX, animation, equipment and rebranding its services under the MELS name.
“As the founder of Les locations Michel Trudel, the developer of Mel’s – La Cité du Cinéma, and the founder of Les génératrices Star, Michel has played an instrumental role since 1988 in the emergence and development of Québec’s film and television production industry,” said Julie Tremblay, president and CEO of Quebecor Media Group and TVA Group in a statement.
The newly appointed president will lead a team that includes Paul Bellerose, VP sales; François Garcia, VP sales – creative services; VFX manager Benoît Touchette and senior operations manager Sébastien Labbé.
Trudel is a co-owner of La Cité du Cinéma studios in Montreal, with films such as The Walk, 300, Human Traffiking, Birdman, X-Men Days of Future Past and Life of Pi have been shot.
