The CMF has completed the second round of funding this year for its Francophone Minority program, awarding $2.6 million across five projects.
The program funds content that reflects the realities of life for Francophones living outside Quebec, and includes both linear and digital streams.
Making the cut were:
Amélie et compagnie!, a TV show and digital asset for Ontario broadcaster TFO that was awarded a total of $639,558 for both components. The project follows a nine-year-old girl, her family and her cat, Newton.
Balade à Toronto, a show and digital project for TV5’s Unis channel produced by Machine Gum Productions, “introduces viewers to next-generation French Canadian singer-songwriters and musicians.” It was awarded a total of $179,176 and will feature 360 interactive video on its website.
La Grande traversée from Les Productions Rivard garnered $598,386 for its TV show and educational website. Produced for SRC, RDI and Explora, it’s a documentary series that “tells the story of the first French settlers and their incredible adventure in New France with a re-enactment of a 1706 Atlantic crossing.”
Season four of Balestra Productions’s Les Jumelles (TFO) and its digital media component was awarded $382,530 from the CMF. The competition-style series targets 9 to 12 year olds.
Season three of Toi et Moi from Slalom Productions and Zone3 was awarded $743,735, while its digital media component, a blog authored by one of the main characters in the show, received $22,046 in funding from the CMF. The series tells the story of a 42-year-old woman with two teens from a previous relationship who marries a 25-year-old artist, and the challenges the couple encounters after they have a baby together.
