Production is underway in Vancouver on Spain/Canada coproduction Colossal, from writer and director Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes).

The filmmakers also revealed additional casting details, with Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), Austin Stonewell (Bridge of Spies, Whiplash) and Tim Blake Nelson (Fanatastic Four, Lincoln) boarding the project. As previously announced, stars Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis are starring in Colossal.

Colossal is the first feature to emerge from the recent five-film sales deal between Vancouver’s Brightlight Pictures and L.A.-based Voltage Pictures, struck earlier this month. The picture is being produced by Shawn Williamson and Arielle Boisvert for Brightlight, as well as Vigalondo’s long-term production partner Nahikari Ipiña of Spain’s Sayaka Productions, with Justin Bursch on executive production.

Colossal tells the story of Gloria (played by Hathaway), who leaves New York to return to her hometown when her engagement falls apart and she loses her job. However, when a giant creature begins destroying the city of Seoul, Gloria realizes that even though she is on the other side of the world, these events are connected to her.
