CFC announces Slaight Music Residency participants

Three composers and three songwriters have been selected to take part in the creative- and business-focused program.

The Canadian Film Centre has named the participants in its fourth annual Slaight Music Residency program.

Composers Armen Bazarian, Dillon Baldassero and Emily Klassen and songwriters Ava Kibalian, Casey Manierka-Quaile and Lisa Conway were chosen to take part in the nine-month program.

The residency’s objective is to introduce musicians to the business aspect of integrating their work into television and film, as well as increasing the presence of Canadian-penned music in entertainment.

The part-time program is chaired by composer Mychael Danna and Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Marc Jordan. The program began Monday, Sept. 28 and concludes on June 30, 2016.

Previous participants in the residency include composer duo Joseph Murray and Lodewijk Vos, collectively known as Menalon, who scored three films in this year’s TIFF, and five films the previous year.
