Production is underway on Shaftesbury’s psychological thriller Slasher, created and written by Aaron Martin (Killjoys, Being Erica).
The series consists of eight hour-long episodes and is being shot in in Sudbury, Parry Sound and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario until October.
Slasher is developed and produced by Toronto and L.A.-based Shaftesbury in association with Super Channel and U.S. cable channel Chiller, and is directed by Craig David Wallace (Todd and the Book of Pure Evil).
The series is set to premiere in 2016 on both Super Channel in Canada and Chiller, where it will be the U.S. network’s first original series.
Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie executive produce the series alongside Martin.
The cast features Katie McGrath (Jurassic World, Dracula, Merlin), Brandon Jay McLaren (Graceland, The Killing), Wendy Crewson (Saving Hope, Revenge), Steve Byers (The Man in the High Castle) and Dean McDermott (Ecstasy, CSI).
The series is receiving funding from COGECO Program Development Fund.
Slasher follows Sarah Bennett (played by McGrath) as she returns to her hometown where a copycat killer replicates the murder of her parents. Bennett begins to suspect everyone as the bodies pile up and old secrets are revealed.
Martin is represented by Harrison Artist Management in Canada and CAA in the U.S.; Wallace’s literary agent is Meridian.
