DHX taps Richard Rowe to lead global content push

Former Turner and Rowe Media exec Richard Rowe is now director of international acquisitions and coproductions.

richard roweHalifax-based DHX Media has tapped former Turner and Rowe Media exec Richard Rowe as director of international acquisitions and coproductions.

Rowe will be tasked with sourcing original content for coproduction as well as finding new programming for DHX Media’s distribution unit.

Rowe’s appointment comes on the heels of DHX’s strongest-ever quarter, wherein the company saw Q3 revenues rise 195% to US$71.6 million compared with US$24.3 in 2014. Of that 195%, distribution growth accounted for 71%.

However, the company’s core stable of channels in its TV division are in flux following the loss of Disney content to Corus. Disney Junior and Disney XD are set to rebrand as Family Junior (English)/Famille Junior (French) and Family XTRM by Nov. 30, and all will require a new pipeline of content to fill the spaces Disney once occupied.

Rowe has had exposure to DHX through his past roles at Turner Broadcasting, where he spent the first 12 years of his career, and while running his own children’s TV consultancy. At Turner, Rowe’s remit included most international markets, working in a variety of roles that covered programming, acquisitions, coproductions and development.
