Technicolor and Montreal-based equipment provider Departement Camera have announced a strategic partnership to provide complete end-to-end services for local broadcast and theatrical projects.
The strategic partnership allows clients to access coordinated tech support and services between the two companies that specialize in opposite ends of the production cycle. Departement Camera offers production equipment and studio rental services, while Technicolor focuses on audio and video post-production, including VFX and imaging.
In addition to offering productions a better deal if they use both Departement Camera and Technicolor services, the partnership also offers producers a more streamlined service overall, said Nicolas Savoie, Technicolor’s VP sales at its Montreal location.
“It means that our operational teams are talking to each other regularly,” Savoie told Playback Daily. “The technical support is coordinated, as opposed to being completely independent.”
With the partnership, the two companies have invested in a new colour suite at the Departement Camera’s facility in Montreal, giving clients on-site access to Technicolor’s colouring services. Producers can access the colour suite on a room-rental basis for smaller-budget projects, or bring in a Technicolor-certified colourist for bigger productions.
The strategic partnership between the two companies comes amidst an active M&A period in the post-production and equipment services industries. Canada’s SIM Group has been particularly busy, earlier this year acquiring Tattersall Sound and Picture and inking a number of other post and service M&A deals.
