Toronto-based Mongrel International has acquired the international sales rights to U.S.-based Blackbird Films’ The Tale.
The Tale tells the story of a journalist named Jennifer who discovers a dark secret about her past when her mother discovers a story Jennifer wrote when she was 13. The Tale stars Laura Dern, Ellen Burstyn, Sebastian Koch and Elizabeth Debicki.
The Tale will be written and directed by Jennifer Fox, who won the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize for Beirut: The Last Home Movie (1987). Fox will also serve as producer for the film, alongside Blackbird Films’ Lawrence Inglee and Oren Moverman. Marc Almon and Sol Bondy will also serve as coproducers on the film.
Shooting is being slated to begin this summer.
Mongrel International is a division of Mongrel Media. Launched in May 2014, it acquires and sells films internationally on behalf of Mongrel. Charlotte Mickie heads up the division as president.
