Leon Lee’s Human Harvest has won a Peabody Award in the documentary category.
The feature doc follows David Matas and David Kilgour, a pair of Nobel Peace Prize nominees, as they investigate illegal organ harvesting in China.
Human Harvest was written, directed and produced by Lee of Vancouver-based Flying Cloud Productions and executive produced by Jason Loftus of Toronto-based Mark Media.
The film also received support from the Canada Media Fund’s Diverse Languages Program funding stream, which supports projects produced in languages other than English, French or Aboriginal languages. Human Harvest was originally produced in Mandarin.
The Peabody Awards recognize achievement and excellence in broadcast and media production. Winners will be presented with the awards on May 31 in a ceremony in New York City.
Previous prizes Human Harvest has won include the Michael Sullivan Frontline Award for Journalism in a Documentary, and the top prize at the Viewster Online Film Festival.
