Xavier Dolan joins Cannes Film Festival Jury

The Canadian director will be one of nine jury members, including Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, Guillermo del Toro and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Canadian director Xavier Dolan has been tapped to join this year’s Cannes Film Festival jury, which will be led by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen as co-presidents.

Dolan, who latest release, Mommy, last year earned the Jury Prize at Cannes, joins another six jury members, including Spanish actress Rossy de Palma, French actress and director Sophie Marceau, and British actress Sienna Miller.

This year’s official competition jury also includes Mali composer Rokia Traoré, Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, who spends much time filming movies and TV series in Toronto, and American actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

Each of the nine jury members have the same voting rights.

Among the movies they will judge this year is Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario, while Cannes this year will open with the first movie by a woman director,  Emmanuelle Bercot’s La Tête Haute.

Dolan and fellow jury members will do their work during the Cannes Film Festival, which is set to run from May 13 to May 24.
