Major players in the Nova Scotia film and TV industry continue to meet with representatives of the provincial finance ministry to possibly salvage a workable film tax credit amid planned drastic changes.
“It was a positive meeting with a lot of information shared. We’ve agreed to meet again this week,” Almon told Playback Daily on Monday after two meetings with provincial Department of Finance officials last week.
Nova Scotia two weeks ago shocked the province’s production sector when it unveiled a proposed new film tax credit that is only 25% fully refundable. The remaining 75% of the eligible tax credit will be non-refundable, which local producers consider unworkable.
What has been discussed in the latest meetings, and any agreement on possible amendments to the current tax break set to expire on July 1, 2015, has not been disclosed.
But the Nova Scotia production sector has told the provincial government their industry will be lost, and local producers will go elsewhere to make their films and TV projects, if the current film tax credit is gutted.
