In the second major C-suite change at a broadcaster in as many weeks, Rogers Media has announced Keith Pelley is leaving the company this summer to become the commissioner and CEO of The European Tour, a global golf event.
The announcement follows Bell Media last week announcing the exit of Kevin Crull following the CEO’s interference in news coverage regarding Let’s Talk TV.
Pelley has been with Rogers Media since August 2010, overseeing major corporate strategies such as Rogers Media’s $5 billion acquisition for NHL rights for the next 12 years. He also led the launch of video streaming service Shomi and, on the print side, digital magazine platform Next Issue Canada.
Most recently, the company announced a $100 million joint venture with Vice Media, which will see the launch of a Canadian studio and a suite of content for multiple platforms.
Pelley’s exact departure date was not announced.
