Morgan Elliott helped reality TV king Mark Burnett launch the TV adventure racing genre with Eco-Challenge.
Now the Canadian producer and long-time collaborator with Burnett is set to engage in an adventure competition of her own at MIPTV when Brad Pelman’s Fremantle Corp. starts shopping Elliott’s latest project, the Avro Lancaster Bombers documentary Reunion of Giants, to international doc buyers.
The goal: convincing broadcasters Elliott has captured history in the making.
Fremantle picked up the world rights to the documentary from Elliott’s SeeMore…Productions that chronicles the reunion of two Avro Lancaster Bombers that last flew together 50 years ago.
Taking a page out of the Mark Burnett playbook for in-show brand recognition, Elliott worked on Reunion of Giants with the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and the Royal Air Force to tell the story of two fighter bombers reuniting during peacetime at an event in Lincolnshire, England to fly side by side once again.
Fremantle, which has set up meetings with U.S. and other international broadcasters at MIPTV for Reunion of Giants, will tout the massive logistical undertaking captured by Elliott’s documentary as the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s Avro Lancaster, named VeRA, left Hamilton, ON and a made a dangerous trans-Atlantic crossing to meet the British bomber Thumper over the English countryside.
Pelman told Playback Daily historical documentaries like Reunion of Giants are in demand with international doc buyers.
“This production has the perfect mix of the emotional reconnection of war veterans from both Canada and the United Kingdom, actual war archival footage from the Lancaster in battle and is timed perfectly for all 50th anniversary programming initiatives worldwide,” he said.
