Technicolor buys Mikros Image, including Montreal studio

The Montreal facility, which largely does feature animation for the French-based animation producer, recently completed work on the upcoming feature Le Petit Prince.

Technicolor has acquired Mikros Image, a French animation producer and postproduction house in Paris and Montreal to get deeper into animation services.

Terms of the deal with Mediacontech, Mikros’ parent company, for the VFX and animation producer were not disclosed.

The Mikros Image studio in Montreal opened in October 2011 to complete work on the feature film Je vous ai compris by director Franck Chiche.

The Montreal animation facility, which largely does feature animation for Mikros Image productions, recently completed work on Onyx Film/Paramount’s upcoming feature Le Petit Prince, directed by Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda), and includes a commercial division.

Technicolor, which already has VFX and animation brands like Mr. X, MPC and Ouido, said Mikros Image would retain its own brand and management.
