The Canadian media industry is to get a new heritage minister after the next federal election.
Shelly Glover, who is currently in the position, on Friday said she will not see re-election.
“While I am proud of this record and the time I spent in Ottawa, it is time to return to my previous life,” Glover said in a statement.
Glover was named to the heritage post in July 2013, after being elected to the House of Commons in 2008 to represent the Winnipeg riding of St. Boniface.
She took a leave of absence from the Winnipeg Police Service to enter Parliament, and now will return to policing after the next election.
Glover’s successor will have a full plate, including the future of a cash-strapped CBC transitioning to a digital world and a TV industry facing fundamental change after the CRTC’s Let’s Talk TV decisions.
