Discovery has picked up Proper Television’s latest original competition format Blood, Sweat and Tools, which is slated to bow on Monday, April 13 at 10 p.m.
The series is a battle between five of “Canada’s most inept home renovating couples,” which will compete for a $50,000 prize over the nine-episode first season. The teams will work with three experts to complete various home repairs. After the first eight episodes, Canadian viewers can vote to decide the winning couple during the live season finale episode.
Proper Television developed the show for an audience that is interested in DIY and build projects, but might want a series on a topic that is a bit edgier or funnier than what is typically found on lifestyle-focused networks, said Proper president and series executive producer Guy O’Sullivan.
O’Sullivan said Proper is aiming to sell the format into other territories, and sales division Proper Rights will bring Blood, Sweat and Tools to MIPTV in April. While Proper is known for formats, Sullivan noted original series can be a better business decision for prodcos.
“But more than that, we know this type of programming and having looked around the marketplace, we really felt we had something original to offer,” O’Sullivan told Playback Daily.
Blood Sweat and Tools is produced by Proper Television in association with Discovery Canada. O’Sullivan executive produces the series along with Jennifer Scott. Blair Ricard is series producer. Stan Lipsey is the executive producer for Discovery.
