Xavier Dolan’s Mommy picked up the best foreign film prize at the French Academy of Cinema Art’s Cesar Awards gala held Friday evening in Paris.
The Cesars, France’s version of the Oscars, saw six high-profile films vie for the foreign film prize, including Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel and Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave.
Other awards Mommy has picked up to date include the third-place Jury Prize at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival and Telefilm Canada’s 2014 Guichet d’Or prize, presented to the Canadian French-language feature film with the highest-grossing domestic box office sales for the year. The film is also up for 13 Canadian Screen Awards this year, including a best motion picture nomination and a best director nod for Dolan.
Mommy was entered as Canada’s contender for the Best Foreign Language Film category for for the 2015 Academy Awards, but did not make the shortlist. Dolan and Nancy Grant served as producers on Mommy, which is distributed in Canada by Entertainment One and by Roadside Attractions for the U.S. market.
