Vice Media has named Alex Miller, previously the youth brand’s U.K. editor-in-chief, as its global head of content.
Since October, Miller has overseen content across Vice.com and the brand’s network of digital channels, which include food channel Munchies, a joint venture with FremantleMedia (its Girl Eats Food series, pictured); music channel Noisey; Vice News; and arts and creativity channel The Creators Project. Over the last six years, Miller managed content from Vice’s U.K. branch and also hosted assorted Vice news docs.
On the print side, Vice Magazine has named Ellis Jones, previously its managing editor, as editor in chief. Jones, with the brand since 2009, is the magazine’s first female editor in chief. The brand began its life as a magazine, headquartered in Montreal, in 1994.
The news follows a series of moves furthering Vice’s ambitions in the content space over the past year, including December’s announcement of the creation of Vice Films, in partnership with 20th Century Fox; a partnership with Canadian mediaco Rogers Media that will result in a Canadian mobile, TV and online content production hub; a live music content partnership with Live Nation and two major deals that each added US$250 million to the youth brand’s coffers – A+E Networks’ acquisition of 10% of the company, and the sale of another minority stake to Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV).
