Teams from two Canadian VFX shops, Rodeo FX and MPC Vancouver, were recognized at the 13th annual Visual Effects Society Awards, held on Wednesday in Beverly Hills.
The annual awards recognize outstanding VFX work in TV, film, commercials and gaming. A VFX team from Montreal-based RodeoFX won an award for its work on Birdman in the category of Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal/Live Action Motion Picture. Members on the winning Rodeo team included VFX supervisor Ara Khanikian, Ivy Agregan, Jake Braver and Isabelle Langlois. Khanikian, Agregan and Langlois accepted the award in person at the gala.
Elsewhere, MPC Vancouver picked up an award for its work on Game of Thrones: The Watchers Wall in the category of Outstanding Compositing in a Photoreal/Live Action Broadcast Program. David Seager was the supervising VFX editor on the winning project, leading a team which included Dan Breckwoldt, Martin Furman, Sophie Marfleet and Eric Andrusyszyn.
