Dragons’ Den goes online with spin-off webisodes

CBC’s Dragons’ Den is going online for a spin-off series aimed at younger, tech-savvy viewers.

The internet-based version Next Gen Den, to debut Feb. 2 and from the producers of Dragons’ Den, targets young online and mobile phone viewers with 12 webisodes, each 10 minutes long.

Shorter in length, Next Gen Den targets younger entrepreneurs with start-up ideas and ambitions.

The webisodes feature four Dragons: Michael Hyatt, chairman of Bluecat and Dyadem; Michele Romanow, co-founder of Buytopia.ca and SnapSaves; Matthew Corrin, CEO and founder of Freshii; and Paul Miklas, CEO of Valleymede Building Corp.

The rules for Next Gen Den mirror those for the TV version: entrepreneurs pitch their ideas and the four Dragons can invest or pass.

This is also the first online spin-off show for the Dragons’ Den Canadian format; on the CBC TV side, former Dragon Kevin O’Leary hosted Redemption and The Big Decision with Arlene Dickinson and Jim Treliving.

Dragons’ Den has an average audience of 1.2 million Canadians on the CBC, but also averages more than 650,000 page views per month.

Full catch-up episodes and exclusive content of Dragons’ Den is also available on the CBC website.
