Legendary Pictures has optioned the rights to Canadian author Andrew Pyper’s The Damned.

The upcoming novel will be published by Simon & Schuster in February 2015.

Legendary’s Alex Hedlund and Tracy Stevens will oversee the possible book-to-movie project.

The Damned is a supernatural thriller about a survivor of a near-death experience haunted by his vindictive twin sister.

An earlier Pyper novel, The Demonologist, a supernatural thriller about old books and ancient monsters, was optioned by Hollywood director Robert Zemeckis and is in development with Universal Pictures and Imagemovers.

Legendary’s recent releases include Godzilla, Pacific Rim and Crimson Peak.
