California-based VFX shop FuseFX has officially announced the opening of its new Vancouver outpost.
The office, which includes full-scale production facilities, is located in the city’s Yaletown neighbourhood.
Although the Vancouver location opened its doors on Sept. 1, the official launch was only announced by FuseFX this week. The shop opened with five employees and has since expanded to seven, said David Altenau, founder and CEO of FuseFX. The staff currently includes supervising producer Mike Leeming, a production coordinator, four VFX artists and a VFX editor.
“Our office will accommodate over 20 people, and we expect to get to those staffing levels within a year – possibly for pilot season,” Atlenau told Playback Daily.
The Vancouver location has already completed work on the pilot for TV Land’s Imposter, and are currently working on SundanceTV’s The Returned and 20th Century Fox Television’s Backstrom, Altenau said. The shop is currently working on A&E’s Bates Motel, and is splitting work with the California office on a Sony Pictures Television pilot titled Mad Dogs. The Vancouver facility will be able to complete work for 2D and 3D visual effects, 3D animation, compositing, finishing, cosmetic enhancement, matte painting and pre-visualization.
FuseFX has worked on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and American Horror Story, and is currently doing work for NBC’s The Blacklist and POWERS, a drama series slated to bow on the upcoming Sony PlayStation network. The company also recently expanded to New York with an office that will eventually employ more than 30 people.
FuseFX’s headquarters in Burbank, California employs about 100 people.
