The Canada Media Fund has invested $2.5 million across six television productions and their corresponding digital media elements.
The program aims to provide support to productions that strive to reflect the interests and realities of French communities that are outside Quebec. Of the projects selected for this round of funding, three are from New Brunswick, two are from Ontario and one is from Manitoba.
Three of the projects are documentaries, one is a drama, with the remaining two falling into the category of variety and performing arts. This is the second round of funding that has been awarded through this program this year.
The variety series Balade a Toronto from Machine Gum Productions received $137,731 through the program. Its accompanying digital media project, a website that will feature interactive content tied to the series, received $83,751 in financing.
Wookey Films’ Les Boys de Ballet documentary received $59,556 in financing, while its digital media component received $7,540. The digital media funding will support the production of eight to 12 two-minute webisodes that will be featured on the documentary’s website.
Harfung de neiges, nord et sud, a documentary about snowy owls from an unnamed production company, received $142,575 in funding, while its digital media project picked up $15,085 in funding.
Pour l’amour du Country, a variety series featuring French-language country singers from across Canada, received $472,560 in funding. The television series is produced by an unnamed company. The series digital media component, to be produced by Connections Productions, received $21,275.
The drama St-Nickel, also produced by an unnamed company, received $1,050,000 in funding, with $69,750 dedicated to its digital media component. Finally, the documentary series Trajectories, which looks at the lives of popular former NHL players, received $400,000 in financing. The series is produced by an unnamed company. Trajectories digital media project, to be produced by Connections Productions, received $44,972 in funding.
