NFB film advances in Oscar animated shorts category

Torill Kove’s Me and My Moulton, a Norway-Canada coproduction, is among 10 animated short films to advance in the voting process for the 87th Academy Awards.

The film by Kove, who earned an Oscar for The Danish Poet in 2006, was among 58 short animated films to originally qualify in the category.

The 14-minute coproduction between Mikrofilm and the National Film Board of Canada portrays a seven-year-old girl and her sisters as they ask their parents to get them a bicycle.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will now select three to five nominees from among the 10 titles on the animated short film shortlist.

Branch screenings will be held in Los Angeles, London, New York and San Francisco in December.

Oscar nominations will be unveiled on January 15, 2015, ahead of the Academy Awards on February 22, 2015.
