Production is set to start this week on Aim For The Roses, a docu-drama from writer-director-producer John Bolton, tentatively set to air on Super Channel next summer.
The film tells the stories of Canadian stuntman Ken Carter, who declared in 1976 that he was going to attempt to clear the St. Lawrence River in a rocket-power car, and Canadian musician Mark Haney, who set out to create a solo double bass album in tribute to Carter’s efforts.
Starting on Sept. 29, the film will shoot for eight days in Mission, B.C. at the Mission Raceway and at a private property near the Fraser River, and for four days in Vancouver in late October. Cast attached to the project include Andrew McKee, Raphael Kepinski and Kevin MacDonald.
The film received financing from Creative BC, the BC Arts Council, tax credits and a broadcast licence from Super Channel. The filmmakers are also seeking financing through an Indiegogo campaign to cover the costs of building the runway, ramp and rocket car that will be featured in the movie. In addition to the Super Channel airing, Bolton said the filmmakers would like to see Aim For The Roses premiere at Hot Docs this spring, and screen at DOXA in Vancouver in May.
In addition to Bolton, Haney serves as a producer/composer on the film. Vince Arvidson is director of photography, and Michael S. Bolton is production designer.
