The Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montreal is opening this year with a Hollywood movie.
Warner Bros.’ Reese Witherspoon-starrer The Good Lie, directed by Philippe Falardeau, will kick off the Montreal festival’s 43rd edition on Oct. 8.
Falardeau opened the festival in 2006 with Congorama and closed the Montreal event in 2011 with Monsieur Lazhar.
The Quebec director’s first U.S. feature follows refugees of Sudan’s civil war, and also stars Corey Stoll and Sudanese actors Arnold Oceng, Ger Duany, Emmanuel Jal and Kuoth Wiel.
The Good Lie opens theatrically in Quebec in October.
The Festival du nouveau cinema will close on Oct. 18 with The Salt of the Earth by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado.
