Brain Power gets tweens to embrace their inner Trashionista

In an effort to tap into tweens and teens passion for DIY and eco-friendly practices, Ontario-based Brain Power Studio has partnered with content creators Rollman Entertainment and Go Girl Media to coproduce Trashionista, an original live-action show all about being eco-conscious.

The tween- and teen-skewing lifestyle series (26 x 30 minutes) was created and developed by producers Susie Singer Carter and Don Priess at Go Girl Media (Soul Surfer, Brothers Flub), alongside Rollman Entertainment’s founder and veteran Marvel and Saban exec Eric S. Rollman.

Positioned as a ‘How To’ style series, the show focuses on making functional crafts and clothes from discarded items found around the home. Its DIY theme is meant to promote eco-sensitivity, creativity and up-cycling among the younger demos. To do this, the show includes features like guest spots from eco-celebrities and DIY/up-cycle tips from top designers and artists.

Format-wise, the episodes are comprised of rotating segments that show viewers how to make eco-chic DIY projects via step-by-step interactive demos. Segments include Garbage Chic, a feature where designers create catwalk couture looks from found objects, and Dr. Denim, a segment that takes old jeans and  completely reinvents them.

Trashionista takes up the trend for crafting and DIY, something which teens have shown great penchant for of late, following the popularity of Rainbow Loom, arts & crafts and DIY e-commerce sites like Etsy.
