Former DHX Media principal and Decode Entertainment co-founder Neil Court has linked up with private equity fund ZM Capital to become an equity investor in 9 Story Entertainment.
Details on the agreement were not disclosed, including the size of the stake, but it is termed a strategic investment as opposed to an eventual play for the kids and family producer.
Court becomes executive chairman of 9 Story, based in the U.K., while Vince Commisso continues as president and CEO of the company.
9 Story’s existing management team will also continue to lead the company, which was founded in 2002 and employs around 220 staff in its Toronto-based studio.
The producer is best known for TV series like Daniel Tiger’s Neighbourhood, Almost Naked Animals and Camp Lakebottom.
Court co-founded Toronto’s Decode Entertainment, before it became DHX Media in 2006 and went public.
He left DHX in 2009, and remained as a non-executive board member until 2011.
ZM Capital is the private equity fund of ZelnickMedia, a New York based investment firm.
