Pre-movie app maker TimePlay has named Joseph Peixoto as a strategic advisor, charged with getting the Canadian interactive technology into the international market.
Peixoto joins Toronto-based TimePlay from RealD, the 3D movie technology provider, where he was president, worldwide cinema.
He will report to Jon Hussman, TimePlay’s president and CEO.
In his new role, based at TimePlay’s Los Angeles base, Peixoto will help the Canadian company grow its cinema network worldwide, targeting the U.S., European, Asian and South American markets.
TimePlay launched as a startup by servicing Cineplex theatres with mobile games that allowed cinema-goers to interact with one another before the start of movies.
Players competed for prizes such as free popcorn, drinks and Scene points from Cineplex, with brand partners including Mazda, Koodo and Pizza Pizza.
TimePlay has yet to roll out its pre-movie app to rival exhibitors in Canada, as the company focuses instead on hospitality venues, especially sports bars.
