A24 Films has acquired the U.S. rights to Atom Egoyan’s The Captive, in partnership with DirecTV.

The U.S. distributor will release in the U.S. in Fall 2014, likely after the Ryan Reynolds-starrer screens at the Toronto International Film Festival.

A24 Films picked up The Captive as part of a deal with WME Global, on behalf of Entertainment One Films International, Ego Film Arts and The Film Farm.

News of the agreement came as The Captive had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in competition.

The film was shot in Sudbury, ON with an original working title of Queen of the Night.

eOne will release The Captive in Canada.
