Mongrel Media is venturing out into the global distribution market.
The launch of Mongrel International, coming ahead of Cannes, will see the Toronto-based distribution outfit acquire films for worldwide sale.
The international division’s first acquisition is Aisling Walsh’s Maudie, a Canada-Ireland coproduction for which Mongrel International picked up the worldwide rights.
The film will be shopped first in Cannes, with Mongrel Media taking the Canadian rights.
Maudie is set to shoot in July in Newfoundland, based on a script by Sherry White.
Irish director Aisling Walsh will lense the picture, which is produced by Bob Cooper, Mary Young Leckie and Susan Mullen.
