Continuum, Down River top 2014 Leo nominations

The time-travel sci-fi series Continuum has 21 nominations at the 2014 edition of the Leo Awards, while Down River leads the motion picture field with 13 nods.

The Leo Awards, which celebrate artistic excellence in B.C. film and television (including craft work on foreign productions), will be awarded over three nights starting May 30 with a final gala ceremony to be held on June 1.

The nominations for the Showcase and Syfy series Continuum include those for best dramatic series, visual effects, direction, cinematography, make-up and costume design. CTV’s Motive pulled in 12 Leo Award nominations, including best dramatic series, direction, screenwriting and cinematography.

Other dramatic series picking up Leo nominations include Blackstone, Arrow, Played, Bitten, Once Upon a Time, Witches of East End, Almost Human, Cedar Cove, Beauty and the Beast, Bomb Girls and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. On the comedy side, Package Deal is up for two awards, with Baby Daddy, Call Me Fitz, Public Records and Seed all nominated for one award each.

In the information and lifestyle series categories, Anaïd Productions’s The Liquidator has six nominations, while Love It or List It Vancouver is up for five awards. Other information and lifestyle programs nominated include Wedding Bells, EATS Vancouver, Playground and The Proposal.

On the motion picture side, Down River‘s field-leading 13 nominations include best motion picture, best editing, best screenwriting and best direction for Ben Ratner. Karen Lam’s Evangeline, Matthew Kowalchuk’s Lawrence & Holloman and Jason James’s That Burning Feeling all pulled in 9 nominations.

Other films nominated in the various motion picture categories include If I Had Wings, Sitting at the Edge of Marlene, Stress Position, No Clue, Cinemanovels, Cruel & Unusual, 3 Days in Havana, Elysium, Evil Feed, The Dick Knost Show, Afterparty, Force of Execution, The Call and Way of the Wicked.
