MIPTV ’14: Bristow nabs format rights for Mob Wives

Toronto-based producer Bristow Global Media has acquired the Canadian format rights for reality show Mob Wives from distributor Electus International.

The docu-soap, which airs on cable network VH1 in the United States, follows a group of women whose husbands or fathers are doing time for mob-related crimes. The women also contend with family and friend-related drama as they attempt to establish their own identities.

Earlier this week, Bristow picked up the Canadian format rights to You, Me and My Ex, a reality show that gives divorcees a chance to unite their old family with their new one. It was created by Buzz Productions and is distributed by Armoza Formats.

Bristow Global Media launched last year. It was founded by Julie Bristow, formerly executive director of studio and unscripted programming for CBC, in partnership with media investment management company GroupM Entertainment and U.K. celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s prodco Fresh One Productions.
