Banff plans love-in with Lionsgate as company of distinction

The Banff World Media Festival is giving Lionsgate pride of place at its upcoming June event as the company of distinction.

The honour will see top Lionsgate executives, producers and talent receive trophies and offer keynotes addresses and master classes during the June 8 to 11, 2014 event.

“The Banff World Media Festival is one of the world’s leading television and digital media events, and the Banff team shares our entrepreneurial culture and innovative spirit,” said Kevin Beggs, chairman, Lionsgate Television Group, in a statement Thursday.

Lionsgate told Playback Daily that top management at the Vancouver-based mini-studio will converge on Banff for the company tribute.

Banff festival organizers added the talent lineup for the love-in with Lionsgate has still to be hammered out.

Lionsgate’s expanding TV business includes 34 shows on 22 networks currently, including Mad MenWeeds, Nurse Jackie, Anger ManagementNashville and Orange is the New Black for Netflix.

The TV producer has innovated with a 10+90 model and produced original content for digital platforms.

CBS was the focus of the inaugural company of distinction tribute at Banff in 2013.
