Time Tremors, Perfect Storms up for Int’l Digital Emmys

Two Canadian productions are up for International Digital Emmy awards: Time Tremors, a majority Canadian coproduction between Toronto’s Xenophile Media and Australia’s The People’s Republic of Animation, and Perfect Storms Interactive from Toronto-based Secret Location.

Time Tremors is up for an award in the Digital Program: Children & Young People category, while Perfect Storms Interactive received a nomination in the Digital Program: Non-Fiction category.

Overall, there are 12 nominees across award’s three categories (Digital Program: Children & Young People; Digital Program: Fiction and Digital Program: Non-Fiction). The nominated productions hail from countries around the world, including Australia, Brazil, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Portugal, Singapore, the Netherlands and the U.K.

This will be the ninth edition of the International Digital Emmys, which take place on the opening night of MIPTV in Cannes, France on April 7, the International Academy  of Television Arts & Sciences announced Monday.

Also announced is YouTube to receiving the Pioneer Prize, acknowledging the Google co’s depth and breadth in the space; YouTube is localized in 61 countries across 61 languages, and 80% of its traffic comes from outside the U.S.

For the second year in a row, the International Digital Emmys are being sponsored by Bell Fund of Canada, which is also sponsoring a showcase of all the nominated programs at a special session of MIPCube.
