Global distribution giant FremantleMedia International has hired former MGM exec Susan Hummel to launch a Toronto sales office.
Hummel will join FremantleMedia Canada in March as SVP of distribution and sales.
FremantleMedia product is already present in Canadian primetime, with past series like Canadian Idol, Merlin and The X Factor.
The international company will now have someone on the ground, licensing product in the English- and French-language markets to broadcasters, pay TV operators and digital platforms.
“It’s a very exciting time at FMI with the company’s larger commitment to the Canadian TV market. While this last year has been one of transition, the result has been an increased focus on investing in both in-house and third party content and development, as well as a re-energized commitment to building our scripted portfolio,” said Lisa Honig, New York-based senior EVP at FMI, in a statement Wednesday.
Hummel will also help market content sold into the Canadian market.
“It’s great to be part of the newest FMI office, right from the ground-breaking. I look forward to expanding FMI’s existing relationships across all platforms throughout Canada,” Hummel said in a statement Wednesday.
Hummel was most recently with MGM as SVP of U.S. basic cable and Canada television distribution, based in Toronto.
She also completed earlier executive stints at Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and FX.
