Ingrid Veninger’s The Animal Project, Terry Miles’ Cinemanovels and Shayne Ehman and Seth Scriver’s Asphalt Watches are among a host of Canadian films to debut on Vimeo on Demand after having their world bows at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The U.S. video sharing site, having launched a self-distribution platform last year, on Monday said 13 films in all chose to launch on its pay-for-download effort.
The other Canadian titles to embrace Vimeo on Demand, which allows producers to set the price, format and geographical access of films, include Peter Stebbings’ Empire of Dirt, and Une Jeune Fille from director Catherine Martin.
Vimeo ahead of TIFF last September offered 150 films debuting in Toronto a $10,000 advance to make their movies available online via Vimeo on Demand.
The animated film Asphalt Watches by Ehman and Scriver went on to earn the trophy for best Canadian first feature at TIFF.
