Remstar Films has acquired Canadian distribution rights for the latest Ethan Hawke starring vehicle Drones, which reunites the Hollywood star with his Gattaca director, Andrew Niccol.
In Drones, Hawkes stars as a Las Vegas-based fighter-pilot turned drone-pilot, fighting the Taliban by remote control 12 hours a day, then heading home to suburbia for the other half-a-day. Complications arise when the pilot starts to question the mission, wondering if he’s fighting a never-ending war and creating more terrorists than he’s annihilating.
Produced by Voltage Pictures’ Academy-Award winner Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker) and Zev Foreman (Dallas Buyers Club), Drones is third collaboration between screenwriter and director Niccol (The Truman Show) following 1997’s Gattaca and 2005’s Lord Of War, goes before the cameras in February 2014.
Remstar’s latest acquisition joins a 2014 roster that includes Dark Places, the adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s New York Times bestseller starring Academy Award winner Charlize Theron (A Million Ways To Die In The West) as well as Atom Egoyan’s Devil’s Knot, which stars Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon (The Good Lie) and Colin Firth (The King’s Speech.)
