Taking a look at the year that was, Playback’s Winter 2014 print issue is now available online and in mailboxes across the country.
Featuring our annual Best of the Year feature, the Winter issue features profiles with the biggest newsmakers in Canada in 2013. (Admittedly, this week’s Rogers Media and DHX deals have changed the landscape considerably once again.) We speak with producer Don Carmody, CRTC chair Jean-Pierre Blaise, reality TV producer Insight Productions and more.
As well, we take a look at the VFX industry in Canada, which came into the public spotlight on both sides of the border this year following the impassioned Oscar acceptance speech by Rhythm & Hues’ Bill Westenhofer, who noted in accepting the Oscar for R&H’s work on Life of Pi that the company had declared bankruptcy only weeks earlier.
Our Back Page this issue was concepted by comedic writer and filmmaker Kellie Ann Benz, who imagines how a Pinterest board might look if focused on Canadian film and television.
We hope you enjoy and please drop us a line and let us know what you think.
Regards,
Playback staff
