Raven Banner takes Odd Thomas for Canada

Raven Banner Entertainment has added another genre title to its distribution slate for Canada.

The genre indie distributor has acquired all Canadian rights to the $30 million action thriller Odd Thomas, based on the best-selling series by Dean Koontz.

Raven Banner will release the film in early 2014 through its Sinister Cinema partnership with Cineplex. The film had its Canadian premiere at this year’s Toronto After Dark festival.

Odd Thomas is written and directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy franchise and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra). The film stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek Into Darkness), Willem Dafoe (John Carter), Addison Timlin (Californication) and Patton Oswalt (Big Fan).

Yelchin stars as a clairvoyant small town line cook who can see ghosts and helps to avenge their murdered souls. When he notices a large number of foreboding creatures – who are attracted to death – gravitating towards a strange man, he sets out to prevent mass murder and chaos in the town.

Sommers, John Baldecchi and Howard Kaplan are producing.

The deal was negotiated by Raven Banner managing partners Michael Paszt and James Fler, with Paul Hudson on behalf of the filmmakers.
