Toronto-based VOD aggregator and digital distributor Syndicado has acquired Liz Marshall’s documentary The Ghosts in our Machine for U.S. VOD and digital distribution.
Produced by Marshall and Nina Beveridge, The Ghosts in our Machine (pictured) features animal photographer Jo-Anne McArthur spotlighting several animal stories in Canada, the U.S. and Europe, providing a window into the global animal food, fashion, entertainment and research industries.
The acquisition is in line with the goal to acquiring and distribute festival-run-favoured titles leading to theatrical release, the company said in a release. The film will have its theatrical debut in New York, with a week-long release starting Nov. 8 at the East Village Cinema, before moving to L.A. for the week of Nov. 15 to 21. s
Digital is an increasingly lucrative space for docs, Beveridge said in a statement.
“We specifically carved out digital rights because we knew that documentaries have been experiencing great success online and that our film has such an impassioned audience, digital was a key strategy to reach that audience.”
Elsewhere, DHX Media has licensed U.K. free-to-air TV rights to live-action series Deadtime Stories (pictured, left) to U.K. broadcaster CITV
The 10-episode kids and tween program stars Jennifer Stone, as a babysitter who shares a new chapter from her spooky story collection in each episode. The series is based on the book series of the same name by Annette and Gina Cascone.
The Cascone sisters collaborated with David and Scott Hillenbrand (animated Spider Man, Sweet Valley High, Power Rangers) to produce the TV property.
Deadtime Stories premiered on Nickelodeon in the U.S. earlier this month.
