Pixcom Productions names Christine Nielsen as creative director

On the heels of Wednesday’s announcement of Nicola Merola as president of Pixcom Productions, the company today announced that TV industry vet Christine Nielsen has been appointed as the company’s creative director.

In the newly created position, Nielsen will head up Pixcom’s development team, working with Canadian, U.S. and international networks and attending international markets. She will also oversee some of Pixcom’s large-scale productions.

Nielsen will be based in Toronto, and spend a portion of her time at Pixcom’s Montreal headquarters. She will work with Pixcom’s international productions team, which includes Manu Wiecha, head of factual – documentary series; Meredith Fowke, content producer, development; and Cara Volchoff, head of factual entertainment.

“Growth starts with development. Christine has an unbelievable capacity and desire to craft exciting new shows. We created a senior level position where she’ll have the freedom to express her creativity, and the support to take our productions to new heights,” said Merola in a statement.

Nielsen has two decades of industry experience as a production exec, writer and producer. She was most recently a production exec at Discovery Canada, where she worked on series including Don’t Drive Here, Breakout, Strip the City and Dangerous Flights. Her credits as a producer and writer include MegaBuilders, Combat School and CTV feature The Pig Farm.

Nielsen was previously a foreign correspondent for news magazine show W5 on CTV, and headed up CTV’s Asia Bureau from 1998 to 2001.
