Toronto-based distribution co Phase 4 Films and U.S.-based Uncork’d Entertainment have partnered to acquire all U.S. and Canadian rights to Mark Hartley’s horror thriller Patrick from Bankside Films.
Patrick is based on the 1978 Australian horror film of the same name, about a former killer who is now a comatose patient in a psychiatric clinic, and who seems to be using unseen powers to manipulate events in the life of the nurse who is working with him.
The film stars Charles Dance, Rachel Griffiths (pictured) and Sharni Vinson, and is produced by Antony I. Ginnane.
Phase 4 is planning a spring 2014 theatrical and on-demand release for the film, which screened at Fantastic Fest in Austin last month.
The deal was negotiated by Phase 4’s Larry Greenberg and Katharyn Howe, with Bankside’s Stephen Kelliher on behalf of the filmmakers.
Bankside films is handling international sales on the film, which has been sold into territories including Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Middle East, Germany, Benelux and Switzerland.
Separately, Phase 4 announced last week a partnership with Cineplex for a one-night presentation of Dead Before Dawn 3D through Cineplex’s Front Row Centre Events series.
Marking the film’s national theatrical release, the live-action, stereoscopic 3D horror film from director April Mullen will screen in 32 Cineplex theatres across Canada on Oct. 30.
Dead Before Dawn 3D was released theatrically in select U.S. theatres by Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment on Sept. 6, which followed a U.S. VOD release in August. The filmmakers also held an exclusive screening of the film in July at San Diego Comic Con. In Canada, a VOD release is planned for Dec. 17.
The film has also been sold in the U.K., Germany and Russia.
