Avi Federgreen’s IndieCan Entertainment has picked up Canadian distribution rights to Ben Ratner’s feature film Down River.

The film, also written by Vancouver-based Ratner, focuses on three young women on the edge of breakthroughs and breakdowns, who connect with an older woman for guidance and support. Down River is inspired by Ratner’s long-time friendship with actress Babz Chula, who passed away in 2010.

Down River has its world premiere at the Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival, and has been moving through the Canadian festival circuit at CIFF and VIFF, where it will have a gala presentation as part of the Spotlight on B.C. sidebar.

Avi’s passion for Canadian film and commitment to getting independent films into the marketplace serves us extremely well,” said producer James Brown in a statement.
