Production has begun on new Canadian drama series Remedy, commissioned by Shaw Media and produced by Toronto-based Indian Grove Productions.
The primetime medical drama is created and showrun by Greg Spottiswood (King).
Remedy takes viewers behind the scenes of the OR and the ER into the lives of the community members at a downtown hospital, following a med school dropout who returns to the hospital as its newest orderly.
Flashpoint actor Enrico Colantoni stars as the chief of staff and family patriarch, whose family includes his med school dropout son, played by Dillon Casey (Nikita), a general surgeon daughter played by Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and his eldest daughter, an ICU nurse, played Sarah Allen (The Best Laid Plans).
The series also stars Matt Ward, Genelle Williams, Patrick McKenna and Martha Burns as the other players in the hospital drama.
Spottiswood and Bernie Zukerman (King, This is Wonderland) are the exec producers. Kelly Makin and Adam Barken, both of whose credits include Flashpoint and Rookie Blue, among others, are co-executive producing, and Jan Peter Meyboom (Murdoch Mysteries) is producing.
Remedy is produced with funding from the Canada Media Fund and tax credits. Red Arrow International is distributing the series internationally.
Shaw Media first announced Remedy at the upfronts in May, and the series joins Halfire-CORE-produced comedy Working the Engels on Global’s roster of new original programming, slated for its mid-season lineup.
