History U.K. has commissioned Halifax-based Arcadia Content and Sky Vision in the U.K. to make a graphic-novel style docudrama, with the working title of Bannockburn.
The two-hour special will look at the campaign of Scottish King Robert the Bruce against English King Edward II, and the battle of Bannockburn in 1314. The result of the battle, with the Scottish army defeating the larger and more powerful English army, secured Scotland’s independence for more than 300 years.
The docudrama will be shot in a fast-paced, graphic-novel style, with dramatic reconstruction and historical analysis from experts. Bannockburn will air in 2014, marking the 700th anniversary of the battle.
“Bannockburn is an ambitious and enthralling docudrama and I am delighted that this original commission will premiere on History in the U.K,” said Rachel Job, head of acquisitions and commissions for History U.K.
“The graphic novel style of this documentary will bring it alive in a way not previously seen, to give the viewer a more visual perspective on this famous clash between Scotland and England,” added Danny Tipping, head of programming and development at Sky Vision.
