The Toronto International Film Festival on Tuesday unveiled its Masters, Mavericks, Discovery and Future Projections program lineups, as well as its Next Wave and Manifesto selections, additional films, a new venue and new ways for delegates to experience the festival.
The festival is this year adding CBC’s Glenn Gould theatre as a main location for the TIFF Industry Conference, taking place Sept. 6 to 12. The venue will host public and industry programming including the Industry Conference keynote session, Master Class, Mavericks, Telefilm’s Pitch This! on Sept. 9 and the Doc Conference on Sept. 10 and 11.
New this year, TIFF will also present official selections and special screenings in Imax. That lineup includes Keanu Reeve’s Man of Tai Chi, Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity, Nimrod Antal’s Metallica Through the Never and Victor Fleming’s The Wizard of Oz (Oz to be shown in Imax 3D). Jason Reitman’s Live Read, which features a one-take read-through of a classic movie script with Reitman narrating stage direction, returns to the festival this year on Sept. 6 at the Ryerson Theatre. Details of the event will be unveiled at a later date.
TIFF also unveiled numbers and stats for this year’s festival, which will include 146 world premieres and films from 70 countries. That also includes 31 Canadian features, including copros, on par with last year’s 32 homegrown selections, and 42 Canadian shorts.
