McKellar’s Seduction to open CIFF

Don McKellar’s latest feature, The Grand Seduction, will open the Calgary International Film Festival on Sept. 19.

The Grand Seduction will work the Canadian festival circuit, bowing at TIFF then heading to Halifax where it will open the Atlantic Film Festival on Sept. 12.

The film is an English-language remake of Ken Scott’s 2001 film La Grande Seduction. McKellar stepped in to direct the film after Scott, who was originally on board to direct, bowed out.

The Grand Seduction follows a small Newfoundland fishing town looking for a new lease on life. Plans for a lucrative factory contract contingent on the town securing a resident doctor, and the town’s residents concoct an elaborate scheme to convince a big-city doctor to stay.

The film, co-written by Scott and F Word director Michael Dowse, stars Brendan Gleeson, Taylor Kitsch, Gordon Pinsent and Mary Walsh.

Roger Frappier of Max Films and Barbara Doron of Morag Loves Company are producing.
