Telus is jumping into the content game.
The Canadian telecommunications company on Monday announced the creation of The Telus Fund, which plans to support 10 to 20 Canadian projects a year with up to $250,000 per project.
The independent, not-for-profit fund, will aim to encourage development and production of Canadian content that showcases social and technological innovation in the fields of health and wellness, available on multiple platforms and devices.
“More than a decade ago, Telus made a defining decision to apply our world-class innovation and technology to the challenges facing our healthcare system. The Telus Fund reflects another step in our continuing commitment to realize social and technological innovation in this critically important sector,” said Telus president and CEO Darren Entwistle in a statement.
Entwistle added that the success of Telus’ Optik TV service has enabled the company to create The Telus Fund. The IPTV service is available in B.C., Alberta and Quebec.
