Vancouver mini-studio Lionsgate has once again teamed with WWE Studios, this time to produce See No Evil 2, a sequel to 2006’s See No Evil.
Helmed by Vancouver-based directors Jen and Sylvia Soska, See No Evil 2 will see WWE wrestler Kane (Glenn Jacobs), who starred in the first film, reprise his role as reclusive madman Jacob Goodnight.
The film is co-written by Nathan Brookes and Bobby Lee Darby, and follows a group of medical students fighting to survive Jacob Goodnight’s latest killing spree after he rises from the dead in a city morgue.
Lionsgate will handle worldwide distribution. WWE Studios leverage its assets in TV, digital, social media and print to market the film.
“[Lionsgate’s] expertise in distributing and marketing thrilling genre films complements our own vision and efforts for these movies perfectly. We are equally excited to work with the Soska sisters, who will apply their truly unique filmmaking style to See No Evil 2,” said WWE Studios president Michael Luisi in a statement.
Lionsgate co-COO and Motion Picture Group president Steve Beeks in his own statement touted WWE Studios as a “great partner” in past ventures, with success in building strong global brands.
Lionsgate and WWE Studios previously teamed up on See No Evil, The Condemned and an upcoming reboot of the Leprechaun franchise.
Self-described longtime WWE fans, the Soskas said in a statement that “it’s been a long time aspiration for us to work with both these phenomenal companies.”
Continuing in the pattern of twos, the twin sisters have also been tapped to contribute to 2014’s horror anthology sequel ABCs of Death 2, along with Canada’s Vincenzo Natali, director of Cube and Splice.
